Change BPM in Ableton arrangement window

This took me a while to figure out so I’m posting the answer here for future users to find. I’ve found triggering clips and scenes in Ableton can sometimes be a bit stressful in live gigs, especially as I’m also playing keys and tweaking with vocal effects whilst singing. To make keep things simple I’ve placed thrown the backing tracks we use into the arrangement window so I can devote more attention to the audience.

However, I still need to change the BPM as we pass along each track and send the signal out to the drummer. If you open up the Main mixer track at the bottom of the screen you’ll find the option to select ‘Mixer’ and ‘Song Tempo’. Punch in the BPM of your track, select draw mode (small pencil icon at top of screen) and draw in your BPM. Select the metronome icon and send out the signal to drummer using whatever channel you want. Sorted.

I wish Ableton had explained this clearly somewhere. Why is it that, whatever software you use, you usually end up on some random blog for the answers!

Happy Easter!
