Octonauts Dance Remix Alert!

Fans of the brilliant new new kid’s tv show The Octonauts will be pleased to know it’s finally caught the attention of the dance community. Over the last month,  remixes of The Octonauts theme tune have begun to appear online and I’m sure we’re going to see many more in the months ahead. Here’s a quick scout through two of the best – there’s an Ibiza classic in the making somewhere here…

The Octonauts – Cbeebies dupstep remix
My favourite at the moment from the mighty ’hardcoreremixer’. Not sure if it’s true dubstep but it’s true to the Octonauts ‘crew’ with various choice vocal samples thrown in for good measure. My two year-old son was transfixed by this one. Hold tight.

The Octonauts – Cbeebies 2011 Dance Remix

Another classic from, hold on, hardcoreremixer! Wait a minute, is this the only person doing these remixes at the moment? Well, I’m sure this won’t be the case very soon. This tune reminds me of the kind of music I was into when I first started to go out clubbing – truly terrible. I can see it perfectly translating to a 3am Creamfields slot. Turn the speakers up.

Other Octonauts remixes I’d like to hear
Minimal electronica – Vee are Zee Octonauts style-eee
Early Logical Progression – I’m sure the boys over at Good Looking records could do this justice
Tinie Tempah – No contest, if he remixed this and dropped in a couple of lines it would go straight in at No.1

Kill Survivors before it kills us

Come on, be honest. You must agree that the BBC’s latest adaptation of Survivors is a complete waste of time and money.

It’s not strictly this series alone that strives only to fail. I’m getting pretty sick of all these TV shows that start with a pretty decent premise, throws in some interesting characters and then nothing, Kaput, de nada. I’m going to call it the ‘One In Three’ rule. You hook ‘em in with a semi decent storyline and then drag it out so that there’s only one decent hour in three. There might be a rising trend in consuming programmes like these as part of an entire DVD package over a single weekend – but you do have to draw the line at drivel.

The thing that is particularly bad with Survivors is that tries to be a cosy catastrophe like The Day of The Triffids and other post-apocalyptic visions, but it ends up being nothing at all.

And, speaking of Triffids, did you see the way the Beeb botched that one up at Christmas as well?

Rant, rant, rant. One of the many ways of demonstrating why this series sucks is the casting of Paterson Joseph in the lame character of Greg Preston. Now Joseph is, in my opinion, one of the best Shakespearean actors out there. If you ever see him on stage you’ll see how talented this guy is. But translated onto screen his talents are wasted. It’s like inviting Chekov in for a nice cup of tea at the Queen Vic.

The BBC describe Paterson’s character thus:

‘Greg Preston (Paterson Joseph) A former systems analyst for a big multi-national, Greg felt trapped and dreamed of a new life. But his wife, who had grown used to a wealthy and comfortable lifestyle, was appalled by his utopian vision of a new, hard scrabble future. Nursing bitter personal wounds, Greg is now a man who believes he can live without love, friendship or family. ‘

Hardly Troilus and Cressida is it? And it plays out like this:

In fact, this clip alone was perhaps the most exciting part of that particular episode. Painful to watch.

I’m not having a dig at the actors, it’s the script I’m on about. And the audacity of slopping this up for a full hour each week.

But, being a sucker, I’ll probably watch it to the end.

So You Think You Can Dance

So are you all set for the Beeb’s new talent show that launches on Jan 2nd? Looking at these clips, I think it’s got great potential. However, it needs to go really X Factor in order to maintain our attention right through to the finals. Which begs the question, why isn’t this on ITV?

I love some of Nigel Lythgoe’s reactions here on the BBC website – got to be better than Simon Cowell surely? And what about Got To Dance?

Jeremy Clarkson on MSN Cars

You may not have seen our World of Jeremy Clarkson special that we have running in MSN Cars at the moment. Apart from detailing everything you could possibilly want to know about ‘he of tight denim’, it also features a fantastic question and answer interview the MSN Cars team threw at him.

I love the relentlessness of this video. It starts sensibly enough, but as the questions become more leftfield you can almost see Jeremy thinking ‘oh my god, what’s coming next?’

Nice one to the Cars team for putting this together.
