When content audits are not a good idea

Interesting article from Gerry McGovern who argues that, sometimes, content audits just take up too much time on a project. He summarizes: “When dealing with a large, complex, old and out-of-date website, a content audit can be a waste of time and money.”

Timely article from Mark Jackson on Search Engine Watch. Now that Google search has completely changed – do we need to redefine SEO going forward? He writes: “Perhaps “the truth” is that “search” engine optimization has gotten to the point where we need to refer to it as “digital marketing optimization” or “web presence optimization”, or some combination thereof?”

I’m sure it will never happen but it does indicate the significant changes that are happening right now in the SEO industry…

Very insightful article from Tammy Everts, who bangs the drum for content strategy and UX: “I feel like, in our world, we spend such an incredible amount of time talking about the importance of making pages smaller and simpler, this must be having some effect on the outside world. But it’s hard to see this effect when looking at these numbers.”

Journalism.co.uk looks at how some of the biggest news outlets are using Instagram to report back. Useful insight I thought, particularly as it includes an interview with my old boss Peter Bale from CNN.

I loved this article curating some of my favourite Ogilvy quotes. Here’s my favourite: “On average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.”
