What does an SEO and Content Strategy consultant do?
I have been fortunate enough to manage large editorial teams as well as specialising in search optimisation. I can therefore spot opportunities for audience growth from both a content and technical perspective. This is often cheaper than going via an agency as you will have one person (me) across your project at all times. I will be able to provide SEO audits, competitor analysis, SEO and editorial training for your teams in addition to helping you gain more visibility in AI search.
Contrary to some narratives out there the volume of Google searches have increased, and LLMs actually extended search behaviour. It’s true that, in some industries, it's become much harder to acquire traffic with the introduction of AI Overviews, Google’s AI Mode and LLMs like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude etc - what we are now calling zero click search - but there are still core principles to follow that will drive users to your brands. SEO is not dead - it's simply adapting to the new AI visibility requirement for clients.
This can vary, and I’m trying not to use that dreaded term ‘it depends' but it really does depend on what we are trying to achieve. If it's updating news articles, the changes might pull through in minutes, if it's a site migration - well, that might take weeks or months. But it’s my job as the SEO to work with development and content teams to make changes as smooth as possible.
SEO or AI search visibility tools need to be used in conjunction with an actual experienced human. There is always a difference in what Google says will happen if you take a certain action and what will actually appear in the search results. Plus, simply running your tools and exporting the list of actions to send to your development team is one of the fastest ways to burn credibility. You need these recommendations prioritised by actual impact - and no tool is going to be able to do that.
