This website is run by Steven Wilson-Beales, an SEO, AI visibility and content strategy consultant based in the UK. In this policy, “I” and “me” mean Steven Wilson-Beales. I’m responsible for the personal data described here.

What I collect and why

When you use the contact form

The form asks for your name, email address, message and how you found me. Phone number and company are optional. I use these details to reply to your enquiry and, if we go on to work together, to arrange that work.

I also keep a count of how people found me, so I can see which channels bring enquiries. That count holds only the answer you chose, the date and any extra detail you typed in the “Other” box. It doesn’t include your name, email address, phone number, company or message.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me, or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.

When you browse the site

The site uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and where they came from. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device, browser and the pages you view. I don’t use it to identify individual visitors. When you send an enquiry, Google Analytics also records that an enquiry was sent and the “How did you find me?” answer, but not your name, email address or message.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used so I can improve it.

When you email me

If you email me directly, I use your email address and the contents of your message to reply.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_JZH0XWD2Q3, to tell visits apart. The site doesn’t use advertising cookies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Services that process data for me

• Web3Forms delivers contact form submissions to my inbox.
• Google Workspace (Gmail) holds my email, including enquiries.
• Google Sheets holds the “how did you find me” count described above.
• Google Analytics measures site usage. See Google’s privacy policy.
• Cloudflare hosts the site and protects it from attacks. Like any web host, it processes your IP address when you visit. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
• Substack hosts images shown on the newsletter page, so your browser requests those images from Substack’s servers. See Substack’s privacy policy.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

The site also links to Calendly for booking a call and to Substack for the newsletter. If you use either, their own privacy policies apply: Calendly and Substack.

I don’t sell your personal data, and I don’t share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

How long I keep it

• Enquiries and emails: as long as I need them to reply and for any work that follows, and no longer than two years after we were last in touch.
• Google Analytics data: no longer than 14 months.
• The “how did you find me” count: kept while it’s useful for reporting. It holds no contact details.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you
• ask me to correct it
• ask me to delete it
• object to, or ask me to restrict, how I use it
• ask me to transfer it to you or someone else

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. I’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If I change how I use personal data, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
