Wait, is any of this real?

A little bit. Google’s update history comes from its Search Status Dashboard. The volatility readings (Semrush Sensor, MozCast, Algoroo, Sistrix and friends) come from Search Engine Roundtable’s volatility aggregator, which is published under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. Each reading belongs to the tool that produced it. The moon is the moon.

The rest is made up. Magpies don’t cause core updates. We think.

And if a core update really does hit you?

Don’t panic, and don’t rewrite everything in the first fortnight. Rankings often wobble before they settle. Once the rollout has finished, compare your Search Console clicks before and after, and check whether competitors moved the same way.
