Content marketing book review: Why Jay Baer’s ‘Youtility’ sucks
Let me cut to the chase – I was so disappointed by Jay Baer’s recent content marketing book Youtility that I wasn’t going to post a review at all. However, after seeing all the glowing reviews online I had to check my Kindle again to see if I’d actually read the same book. Currently, on Amazon.com there are about 50 reviews, mostly five stars. Only one trashes it with a single, derisory comment. To the underdog that wrote that review, this one’s for you. I’m not going int

Agile, Lean UX and Content Strategy: London meetup
Last night I attended another London Content Strategy meetu p session hosted by Jonathan Kahn and Richard Ingram at Google Campus. The session kicked off with an excellent presentation from freelance agile and Lean user experience architect Sophie Freiermuth (aka @wickedgeekie ) and was followed by a series of Gamestorming exercises to address key issues faced by the group when it came to deploying agile at work. I’ve embedded Sophie’s presentation below and here are my note

Book Review: ‘Linchpin’ by Seth Godin, Lizard King
Apologies Godin fans if I’m a bit late to the party on this one but I’ve finally finished reading ‘ Linchpin ’. It was such a bizarre experience I had to write something about it. Firstly, if you’re looking to introduce a step-change in your career then this is a great motivational read. To paraphrase Godin: It’s all about injecting creativity and risk into your professional life to counter the kind of debasing commodity-exchange structure we find in modern capitalism. Techno

Book Review: The User Experience Team of One by Leah Buley
I’ve been reading a lot of user experience books lately but one of the most impressive has been the ‘ Research and Design Survival Guide ’ by practitioner Leah Buley. I always admire a writer that can take a potentially complex subject like UX and make it a real joy to read. Accessible, practical and extremely insightful. The book is aimed at two audiences – those who want to seek a greater understanding of user experience (student, project manager, aspiring practitioner) and

Alan Wilder A Selected Interview
This month electronic pioneer, producer and ex-member of Depeche Mode, Alan Wilder releases his ‘Selected’ compilation – a summary of his best work as Recoil solo artist. I spoke to him when he was taking a brief break from his current European tour to find out more about the release, making music and if he has plans to work with ‘The Mode’ again. Hi Alan, you’re back with an album and tour. I have to ask: why now? Well, Mute Records approached me with an idea for a compilat
